We at Tardis would like to offer you access to our library of around 20,000 images, so that you don't have to upload your own images whenever you need a copy of, say, Rose's picture in an article.
The way it works is that, once you're linked up, you would just be able to call a picture at Tardis exactly the same way as if were uploaded to this wiki. So if the file is tardis:file:DoctorHurtWide.jpg, you would just type [[file:DoctorHurtWide.jpg]] to integrate it into an article here.
In other words, Tardis would become a kind of "Wikimedia Commons" of Doctor Who imagery on Wikia.
This would likely mean that you could add to your already-impressive growth by being able to put up images here a lot quicker.
Are there downsides? I suppose there might be in that we could delete an image that you're using here and it would leave you without that image. But generally speaking you guys are creating new territory. You're not interested, probably, in every single image we have of Martha Jones. You just want to identify her, so if you stick to our infobox images, you'll decrease the chances that we'll delete a pic that you're using. Also, there may be some very brief periods of time when, due to things beyond our control, Wikia suspends linkage in order to perform maintenance of the system. I'm only speculating about this downside, so it may not even be a realistic issue. But it seems logical to me that there could be brief periods maybe once or twice a year where, for a few hours, we lose the connection between us.
Other than that, I can't think of anything but an upside to this.
Still confused? Take a look here for the concept in action!
Lemme know what you think about this idea and whether we can proceed. Voting on this will be suspended one week from today.
